What is Hard Water?

Hard Water is a kind of water that contains big amounts of Calcium and Magnesium that cause:

a)     Scales - A build-up of scales can constrict the flow of water through pipes which can become completely clogged. Scales form inside water heaters which can become very costly to replace. These can also remain on sinks and bathroom fixtures, which make such expensive items to lose their value.

b)    Scums - It reacts with soap to produce sticky scums. Also, soaps, shampoos, and detergent become hard to lather. It makes us consume more cleaning agents than we ought to.

How can you treat Hard Water?

The calcium and magnesium in hard water are replaced with sodium ions. The ion swapping happens when the water in the house runs through the water softener which contains the ion-exchange resins. The beads are covered with sodium ions. Eventually because of the continuous process of ion exchange, the beads are covered with only calcium and magnesium.

Regeneration happens by soaking the beads in brine solution. The strong brine solution displaces all the calcium and magnesium that has been accumulated. The remaining brine with the calcium and magnesium is flushed out through a drain pipe.

Where do you find Hard Water?

Hard Water can be found in places where the water source is DEEP WELL.
